<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell allowing a fuel cell stack to be easily structured, and having small performance deterioration by controlling a stack in-plane humidity distribution. <P>SOLUTION: This polymer electrolyte fuel cell 1 is provided with a membrane-electrode assembly, composed by forming a fuel electrode 5 and an oxidizer electrode 7 by interposing a solid polymer electrolyte membrane 2; a fuel electrode gas diffusion layer 6 for supplying a fuel gas to a fuel electrode catalyst layer 5; an oxidizer electrode gas diffusion layer 8 for supplying an oxidizer gas to the oxidizer electrode catalyst layer 7; a fuel electrode separator 4 for supplying the fuel gas to the fuel electrode gas diffusion layer 6; and an oxidizer electrode separator 3 for supplying the oxidizer gas to the oxidizer electrode gas diffusion layer 8. The solid polymer electrolyte membrane 2 is a composite electrolyte membrane 2, formed of an insulating porous base material, composed of an ion exchange resin and at least either of organic and inorganic materials, and the porous base material is so formed that the density is made to be different in the membrane surface direction, in the solid polymer electrolyte membrane. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
