PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a color failure phenomenon and to make optimal white balance correction corresponding to an imaging scene. SOLUTION: A white balance correction apparatus includes: a color information detector 12a for detecting color information on each portion of a screen on the basis of image signals on a color-by-color basis; a brightness information detector 12b for detecting the brightness of an overall screen and each portion thereof; an object color likeliness calculator 12d for eliminating color information like an object color resembling a predetermined light source color; a spotlight likeliness calculator 12e for eliminating spotlight-like color information; a target value variation section 12f for varying a color information target value to be a standard for light source discrimination from gray depending on the brightness of either the entire screen or a predetermined portion thereof; and a white-balance correction value calculator 12p for calculating a white balance correction value, on the basis of a plurality of sets of information in which both the object-like color resembling the predetermined light source color and the spotlight-like color are eliminated, and also on the basis of the target value varying from gray.
