PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk recording and reproducing apparatus in which functions being able to operate in the present state can be displayed in a table. SOLUTION: A power source of an apparatus is turned on (step N1), after an optical disk is loaded in the apparatus, any operation pit of reproducing operation, video recording operation, stop operation, and editing operation is performed by remote control operation (step N2), at that time when a short cut key is pressed (step N3), a state discriminating means of a CPU discriminates the present state of the apparatus (step N4). The discriminated result indicates, for example, a reproducing state (step N5), a display control means of the CPU displays only an item which can be operated at the present time out of function contents being able to operate in the reproducing state in a table on a display apparatus (step N6).
