PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method of an optical pickup, capable of making the pickup operate without exceeding a tolerance of current even when there is no tolerance in permissible current capacity due to momentary current consumption. SOLUTION: The control method of the optical pickup is carried out using a tracking error signal and a focus error signal, and is characterized comparing the voltage values of the tracking error signal and the focus error signal with a predetermined threshold voltage value (S12), and changing at least either the tracking error signal voltage or the focus error signal voltage (S13, S14) based on the result of the comparison.
