PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic tire improving belt durability while retaining high-speed durability. SOLUTION: A one-ply steel belt layer 20A containing a plurality of steel cords 19 inclined in the circumferential direction of the tire is arranged on the outer side in the tire radial direction of a carcass, and at its outer side a one-layer cap belt layer containing a plurality of aromatic polyamide cords is arranged. In the steel belt layer 20A, the pneumatic tire is mounted in a suitable rim defined by JATMA YEAR BOOK and maximum inner pressure is supplied to the tire, and once the tire is fitted to the rim and then the maximum inner pressure is reduced to atmospheric pressure after the inner pressure is removed. The distance between the steel cord 19Ls and a virtual line FL is limited to not larger than 10 times of a diameter of the steel cord 19 relative to the virtual line FL extending a cord path of the steel cord 19 on a tire equator plane as seen in a plan view to a belt end side in an area 20Aa ranging from a position of at least 85% of a half width of the belt to the shoulder side with the tire equator plane CL as a center.
