PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To comply with a demand for an apparatus of melting a thermoplastic material in such a manner that flow passage of the material discharged from the apparatus is not restricted. SOLUTION: In the apparatus and method of heating the thermoplastic material and feeding it to a spouting machine, the apparatus has at least one sidewall accepting the solid or semisolid thermoplastic material and a base member supporting the sidewall and heating the thermoplastic material to melt it. In the base member, the upper surface of the base member slanting downward to the sidewall is heated, and a collecting trough is mounted to lead the flow of the molten material and accept the molten material. A strainer is arranged above the collecting trough to filter the molten material. The strainer is suitable for supporting the solid or semisolid thermoplastic material upward of the heated upper surface to provide a flow passage for the molten material to flow in the collecting trough.
