JPEG IMAGE CODE AMOUNT CONTROL APPARATUS AND METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress deterioration in an image even with a small code amount in the case of pre-designating the code amount generated in JPEG coding for the purpose of controlling the code amount.

SOLUTION: The JPEG image code amount control method sets a permissible code amount to each of color difference signals and a luminance signal as to coded data generated in the unit of blocks, and determines a new permissible code amount of the luminance signal by summating a difference between the code amount of the generated coded data and the permissible code amount to the permissible code amount of a luminance signal to be coded next when the code amount of the coded data generated from the color difference signals or the luminance signal is less than the permissible code amount(37).
