PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain printed results having appearances familiar to a user without variation from a printer even when a composer of printing information at the side of a host computer arbitrary designates the appearance information. SOLUTION: This printer performs the printing operation by receiving printing information from host computers 401, 402. In the printer, a control device 110 acquires appearance information from an existing output paper document to be read by a scanner unit 210 and judges whether or not a designation for using existing appearance information is made according to print information received from the host computers 401, 402. When it is judged that the designation of using the existing appearance information is made, the appearance of the printing information received from the host computers 401, 402 is treated by referring to the acquired appearance information.
