PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silane-modified epoxy resin which has excellent transparency, heat decomposition resistance and heat discoloration resistance and low water absorptivity without causing deteriorations in various properties such as heat resistance, solvent resistance and adhesion to substrates and a coating agent, a resin composition for electric insulation excellent in these properties using the silane-modified epoxy resin. SOLUTION: The methoxy group-containing silane-modified epoxy resin is obtained by demethanolation-condensation reaction of a hydroxy group-containing epoxy resin (a) with a hydroxy group-containing specific epoxy compound (b) (except for component (a)) and a methoxy silane partial condensate (c).
