PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine having good working efficiency and finishing precision which can be used in common for a plurality of sewing works, easily sets a material to be sewn, can sew the long material to be sewn in a compact space, and is suitable particularly for sewing a core tape or the like. SOLUTION: The tip of the core tape T passed under a tape guide 27 is overlapped with the starting end of a fabric fed to the setting position on a working table 3 and is gripped by a clamp top 10 (1-2), the clamp top 10 is moved before the sewing machine (3-4), the terminal end side of the fabric is gripped by a clamp bottom 11 at the setting position (5-6), the gripping of the clamp top 10 is released, the sewing machine is started, the clamp bottom 11 is moved in the sewing machine feeding direction fitted to the sewing machine feeding speed to sew the fabric (7-8), the clamp bottom 11 is grip-released before the sewing machine and is returned to the setting position (9-10), and the terminal end side of the fabric is gripped again to repeat the sewing action to the terminal end of the fabric.
