<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new agent for improving the springiness and stiffness of hair based on the activity evaluation on biochemical and molecular biological levels. <P>SOLUTION: The agent and the hair cosmetic for improving the springiness and stiffness of hair contains, as an active component, one or more compounds selected from serine, acetylserine, serine methyl ester, glycine, cysteine, cystine, acetylcysteine, homocysteic acid, methionine, glutathione, folic acid, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, adenosine, dibutyl cAMP and their pharmacologically permissible salts.
