PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a masking apparatus that has no possibility of damaging an optical fiber and that facilitates reuse. SOLUTION: The apparatus has a structure of elastically clamping, with clamp members 15, 16, a lower member 12 that has a fiber storing groove 12a and upper members 13, 14 that are each placed over the front part and the rear part of the lower member 12. The bare fiber 1a of an optical fiber 1 is housed in the fiber storing groove 12a, with a lens part 1c at the tip end projected. Thus, vapor deposition of an anti-reflection film is performed by masking areas other than the lens part 1c of the bare fiber 1a. Because of the structure of holding the bare fiber 1a with the upper and lower members, it is different from the conventional structure of inserting an optical fiber into the optical fiber hole of a ferrule, hardly causing damage when the bare fiber 1a is inserted.
