PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent data in a file management area from being destructed by an instantaneous stop of power without requiring specific constitution such as a mechanism for previously detecting detachment of a connector, and without missing an instantaneous shutter chance. SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus is constituted so as to convert a subject image into an electric signal and to record the electric signal in a recording medium 8 by a recording format having a file management area and a data area. The apparatus is allowed to be operated by any of a secondary battery 4 and an external power supply device 2, and is capable of charging the secondary battery 4 from the external power supply device 2. When both of the external power supply device 2 and the secondary battery 4 are connected, but photographing is performed in a state that the charged capacity of the secondary battery 4 is not reached to a prescribed value; writing in the data area is preceded, writing in the file management area is inhibited, and information to be written in the file management area is stored in a FAT buffer 10.
