PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium covering apparatus constituted so as not only to reduce the wasteful power consumption in a heating device but also to prevent the user's waiting time up to the rising of the temperature of the heating device to a set temperature from becoming long to lower user's convenience. SOLUTION: The recording medium covering apparatus is equipped with heating and press bonding means 8 and 10 for heating and bonding the recording medium A and a cover sheet B under pressure to for a cover layer on the surface of the recording medium A, a recording medium supply means 1 for supplying the recording medium A, a cover sheet supply means 6a for supplying the cover sheet B, a recording medium detecting means 5 for detecting the presence of the recording medium A possible to supply, a discharge detecting means 16 for detecting the discharge of the recording medium A and a control means for raising the temperature of heating devices 8g and 10g to a set temperature when the recording medium A possible to supply is detected and lowering the temperature of the heating devices 8g and 10g when the recording medium A possible to supply is not detected with a predetermined time after the discharge of the recording medium A is detected.
