PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus having a function of detecting a predetermined pattern from an image added with the pattern, and an image reading apparatus and an image recording apparatus. SOLUTION: If an instruction of reading an original is issued (YES in S11), processing of reading the original is executed (S12) and a detection region is extracted on the basis of acquired image data (S13). Then, the number of black pixels is counted in each region obtained by dividing the detection region (S14), and it is determined whether or not a first determination criterion defining the distribution of the number of pixels is satisfied (S16). If it is determined that the first determination criterion is satisfied (YES in S16), output processing is prohibited (S18). If it is determined that the first determination criterion is not satisfied (NO in S16), it is determined whether or not a second determination criterion is satisfied (S21).
