The roofing system (10) includes a single foundation layer (12) of hook and loop fastening material that is affixed to the roof (R), and a plurality of shingles (14) releasably attached to the foundation layer (12). The shingles (14) are overlapped onto each other in rows and held both to each other and the foundation layer (12). The shingles (14) may additionally laterally overlap each other to provide a greater level of resistance to the elements.</p>
