A display which preferably perform Japanese hyphenation while relaxing the restriction by the character code system. A font data storage section (50) stores therein font data including font records each including font information for displaying a character and line break control information for controlling line break before and/or after the character. A character string display section (54) displays a character string according to the font information relating to all or a part of the font records. A line break control section (52) determines the line break position of the displaying of the character string by the character string display section (54) according to the line break control information on the characters included in the character string.
