<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compost decay degree determination method for more accurately determining the degree of decay of compost less containing easily-decomposable nitrogen compounds without using any special apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: Firstly, ammonium in compost is measured to determine that it is undecayed compost when ammonium is detected. Further, a nitrogen compound such as ammonium compound or urea is added to compost close to a state that ammonium is hardly detected to measure the concentration of ammonium in the compost with time, the ammonium being decomposed or produced and decomposed by nitrogen-decomposition microorganism in the compost.
