<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent air cleaner which generates active oxygen from oxygen contained in air to be cleaned for making the active oxygen decompose and clean components to be cleaned in the air. <P>SOLUTION: The air cleaner has: a cleaning member 5 having pigments 51 for absorbing a plurality of photonics fixed to its surface; a light irradiation means 4 for irradiating the cleaning member 5 with light of a frequency which the pigments 51 absorb.
