PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an electric power steering for a vehicle capable of managing commonly with left and right steering wheel mounting positions without changing software irrespective of single-phase motor control or multi-phase motor control. SOLUTION: The control device for the electric power steering is equipped with a motor to add a steering assist force to a steering mechanism of the vehicle and a controller 3 to feed the motor with a current in accordance with the steering state of the steering mechanism, wherein the controller 3 includes a vehicle information acquiring means 102 to acquire vehicle information from the vehicle contributing to the determination of the left and right mounting positions of the steering wheel 1, a parameter storing means 103 to store the parameters P relating to the vehicle information, and a vehicle information comparing means 106 to compare the acquired vehicle information with the stored parameters P. The controller 3 does not execute a steering assist in the case that the comparing result of the comparing means 106 is not identical, and executes the steering assist in the case that the result is identical.
