PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set various functions about transmission so that a user is easy to use. SOLUTION: A facsimile machine transmits/receives documents from other facsimile machines through a public line. A function correlation table sets in advance whether various functions relating to transmission can be simultaneously combined and specified or not, and sets in advance whether various functions relating to transmission can be simultaneously listed or not. A function specification control means searches, if one function is specified, a function that cannot be simultaneously specified with that one function from the function correlation table, and makes specification of that one function to be valid when a function that cannot be specified simultaneously is not specified, while makes specification of that one function to be invalid when a function that cannot be simultaneously specified is specified.
