PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce dependence of light transmittance on a direction of light incidence in a liquid crystal panel which comprises a plurality of liquid crystal layers. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is equipped with 2n units (n is a natural number of 1 or more) each of which is constituted by stacking a first liquid crystal cell 14a produced by interposing a first liquid crystal layer 13a between a first substrate 10a and a second substrate 10b, and forming a first alignment layer 12a to determine the alignment direction of the first liquid crystal layer 13a between the first substrate 10a and the first liquid crystal layer 13a, or between the first liquid crystal layer 13a and the second substrate 10b, and a second liquid crystal cell 14b produced by interposing a second liquid crystal layer 13b between the second substrate 10b and a third substrate 10c, and forming a second alignment layer 12b to determine the alignment direction of the second liquid crystal layer 13b between the second substrate 10b and the second liquid crystal layer 13b, or between the second liquid crystal layer 13b and the third substrate 10c.
