PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a partial sulfide of an ABO<SB>3</SB>perovskite type oxide (A=Sr, Ba; B=Ti, Zr) useful as a photocatalyst which acts under visible light, and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The partial sulfide is a partially sulfurized perovskite type oxide ABO<SB>3-x</SB>S<SB>x</SB>obtained at a temperature at which a sulfide begins to form (e.g., 400°C) or below by reacting an ABO<SB>3</SB>perovskite type oxide prepared by hydrothermal synthesis with a sulfur-containing sulfide, wherein the ABO<SB>3</SB>perovskite type oxide prepared by hydrothermal synthesis preferably has Ba or Sr as the A site and Ti or Zr as the B site.
