1,149,753. Bedsteads. S. J. B. DE SMITT. 15 July, 1966 [1 July, 1965; 31 Dec., 1965 (2)], Nos. 28007/65, 55392/65 and 55393/65. Heading A4J. An unsprung wooden bed base forms, when pivoted side flaps 3 are extended, a single bed, which may be twice as long as it is wide. With the flaps 3 folded downwardly, the bed base can be joined to a similar folded bed base, by clamping members 8, to form a double bed. The flaps 3 are hinged, so that they do not project, when folded, beyond the edge of the main platform 1, thus facilitating clamping. A mattress can be divided into four sections (31, 32, 37 and 38, Fig. 6, not shown), which can be assembled alternatively for use with two single beds (using all four sections), or with a double bed (using one pair of larger sections only). |
