The invention relates to a recording instrument comprising an upper part (8) and a front part (4) that is detachably connected to the upper part and in which a first recording element (70) comprising a first recording tip (14) is arranged. The upper part (8) contains a second element (42) which is especially embodied as a recording element comprising a second tip (44). The aim of the invention is to improve said recording instrument with low construction costs and a compact structure, in such a way that the second element (42), especially the second recording element, arranged at the rear end, can be immediately provided and is ready for use as required, by a generally simple handling process. To this end, the upper part (8) embodied as a tubular housing comprising an inner chamber (40) is fixed by means of a detachable locking unit (58), and the second element (42) can be removed from the opening (22) by releasing the locking unit (58), and can thus be removed towards the rear of the recording instrument. Subsequently, the second element (42) can be inserted into the inner chamber (40) and automatically refixed by means of the locking unit (58).
