<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the image quality of an imaged image. <P>SOLUTION: A numeral "1" is associated with pixels having a standard image signal level greater than a threshold value YHigh, a numeral "0" is associated with pixels having the standard image signal level equal to or less than the threshold value YHigh, closing processing is executed for a binary image comprising the associated numerals as the image signal of corresponding pixels, and the standard image signal of the pixels with which the numeral "1" is associated as the image signal of the binary image executed with the closing processing is replaced with a non-standard image signal. Thus, even when the standard image is detected smaller than the actual level due to noise included in the standard image signal and the standard image signal of part of pixels in a pixel group in the saturated state is discriminated to be smaller than the threshold value YHigh, the standard image signal of part of the pixels can be replaced with the non-standard image signal.
