PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data processing apparatus or the like capable of matching video display timing and output sound timing with high accuracy.

SOLUTION: A digital broadcast receiver 1 calculates a display delay time dt from a display time when a video image based on compressed video data is to be displayed until the time the video image is displayed on a display section 14 and outputs sound based on the compressed sound data after the lapse of the calculated display delay time dt from a sound output time when the sound based on the compressed sound data is to be outputted.
