<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the performance of an engine over the whole rotation area by providing sufficient inertia supercharging effect in the whole rotation area leading from the low/middle speed rotation areas of an internal combustion engine to the high speed rotation area thereof. <P>SOLUTION: This intake device for the internal combustion engine in an outboard motor is provided with main intake pipes 33 extending from the cylinders 20, 21 of a group of the cylinders 20, 21, first branch pipes 34 extending from the extended ends of the main intake pipes 33, second branch pipes 35 extending from the extended ends of the main intake pipes 33, and opening/closing valves 36 for opening/closing the upstream side ends of the second branch pipes 35. The length of the first branch pipes 34 is made longer than that of the second branch pipes 35. A first surge tank 37 communicating with the atmosphere is provided. The extended ends of the first branch pipes 34 are connected respectively to the first surge tank 37. A second surge tank 40 formed separately from the first surge tank 37 is provided.
