PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus in which image data before and after interrupting image reading processing is saved in the storage means and from which good image is obtained by making appropriate correction for a deviation between the two image data. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus includes: a reading means 101 for reading the document image by relatively moving the reading position of an original to a linear CCD; a storage means 103 for storing the image data read with the reading means 101; a remaining quantity detection means for detecting the remaining quantity of the storage means; and a reading control means 106 for resuming the reading of the original to the predetermined timing by returning the reading position of the original by a fixed amount, by temporarily interrupting the reducing of the original according to the remaining quantity detected by remaining quantity detection means. A correction means 104 for correction processing to the deviation generated in the image data before and after the discontinuation when reading of the original is interrupted by the reading control means is configured.
