PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a user to easily measure a subcutaneous fat and a visceral fat by himself/herself. SOLUTION: This body fat measuring instrument is provided with a reel 4 rotating in the pulling out and rewinding directions, a string 2 being pulled out of the reel and wound around the waist, a waist measuring part 14 measuring the organism waistline from the rotating angle and the rotating direction of the reel, a first connecting part 2a provided at the tip of the string, a second connecting part 3 for fitting the first connecting part when measuring the waistline, a subcutaneous fat measuring part 12 measuring the subcutaneous fat at a prescribed position on the waistline, and a visceral fat calculating part 15 calculating the visceral fat from the organism waistline and the subcutaneous fat. This body fat measuring instrument allows the user to easily measure the subcutaneous fat and the visceral fat by himself/herself by calculating the visceral fat area from the waistline and the thickness of the subcutaneous fat.
