PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding door device which is improved in appearance of an upper surface of a sill 5, prevents fall of foreign matter into a recess 18 formed in the upper surface of the sill 5, and facilitates assembly thereof and exchange of a cover band 28. SOLUTION: The sliding door device is constructed by erecting a pair of glass sashes 3 arranged in the same vertical plane in a window frame 1, in a manner drawable separately from each other from a lateral midpoint of the window frame 1 as a boundary. The sill 5 has a lower guide rail 17 arranged in the upper surface thereof. An upper edge of the lower guide rail 17 is located below a portion of the upper surface of the sill 5, on which persons or articles move. Then an upper aperture formed in the recess 18, which is exposed to the outside according to movement of the glass sash 3, is covered with the cover band 28. Further an end of the cover band 28 is bound to a lower edge of an abutting stile, and an intermediate portion and the other end are housed in a lower space 29 formed in the sill 5.
