Two-part form tool for injection molding has joint regions lined with a local ceramic insert

An injection molding tool has one or both of the two tool halves (2, 3) fitted with a ceramic insert (6) to give a better surface near joint regions or mating surfaces during the filling stage. Different thicknesses and shapes of insert can be used to delay local cooling. The inserts can be attached mechanically or by adhesives. An independent claim is also included for an injection molding tool in which the wall (5) of the mold cavity (4) is lined locally with a ceramic layer.
