<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device that can be lowered in thermal resistance as a whole by avoiding the rise of the thermal resistance caused by an insulating layer etc., in a substrate supporting a light emitting element, and has the light emitting element having sufficient brightness, and to provide a projector using the device. <P>SOLUTION: Since the light source device is improved in thermal conductivity by providing a through hole PH in a substrate 2 and directly and closely bringing a heat sink 19 which is a thermal conduction member and an LED package 1 which the light emitting element into contact with each other, the device can efficiently remove heat.
