PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fusion splicing method for a lens and an optical fiber, the method that facilitates control or the like in the irradiation direction of laser and that enables an improved optical characteristic to be stably obtained. SOLUTION: The end face 4 of one or two optical fibers 3 is brought in contact with or close to the end face 2 of a lens 1, with CO<SB>2</SB>laser emitted in the manner that two laser beams 12a, 12b are partly superposed on the end face 2 of the lens 1, thereby fusion splicing the lens 1 and the optical fiber(s) 3.
