PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pulse generation circuit which can certainly turn off a thyristor after a lamp starts, prevents a resistor for supplying a power from being deteriorated by heating the resistor and can prevent that a wasteful power consumption occurs and to provide a discharge lamp lighting device and a lighting system. SOLUTION: In the pulse generation circuit having a second capacitor C12 and the thyristor D12 which constitute a closed circuit with the primary winding of the transformer T1, a resistor R13 for supplying the power to the C12, and a control means for controlling on timing of the D12, a timer means for measuring the time duration in which a voltage is applied to an R13, and a means SW11 connected in series with the R13 to shut off the charging current of the C12 from the power supply when the timer means detects that a voltage is applied to the R13 beyond a fixed time duration from the time of the pulse generation in the primary winding are provided.
