PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable device producing audible sounds, in response to the opening/closing operation of a cover part. SOLUTION: A CPU 1 detects the flip-opening/closing operation by the flip opening detection signal that is outputted from a flip-opening/closing detection section 11. The CPU 1, in response to the detection of the flip-opening/closing operation, retrieves the data head address corresponding to the sound effect data previously designated by a user from the prescribed area of a nonvolatile memory 3b. The CPU 1 retrieves the corresponding sound effect data from a ROM 9, based on the retrieved data head address. The retrieved sound effect data is transmitted to a voice output part 6 through an internal bus. The voice output part 6 produces flip sounds by having the given sound effect data D/A-converted.
