PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress fuel consumption in reforming mixture of exhaust gas and fuel. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine 1 is provided with a reformer 20 forming reformed gas containing hydrogen by reforming mixture of fuel and exhaust gas by a catalyst for reformation and re-circulating the reformed gas to a suction passage 3 of the internal combustion engine 1, and a hydrocarbon adsorbing and discharging means 60 containing hydrocarbon adsorbing and discharging material adsorbing hydrocarbon contained in exhaust gas taken out of an exhaust passage 9 of the internal combustion engine 1 and discharging adsorbed hydrocarbon and supplying the same to the reformer 20.
