PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positioning method and a positioning device for steel plates, having a relatively simple structure, capable of easily adjusting magnetic force applied to the laminated steel plates, and capable of improving efficiency of lifting and positioning work of the laminated steel plates. SOLUTION: In this positioning method for the steel plates, magnetic force is applied to the plurality of laminated steel plates 20 from their side parts toward their lifting direction by homopolar magnets 1 to 3, 5 to separate and lift the steel plates 20 and align side end parts 20a, 20b of the plurality of steel plates 20. While the magnets 1 to 3, 5 are moved toward the side end parts 20a, 20b of the steel plates 20 by using magnet moving means 11, 12, 13, 15, the steel plates 20 are lifted due to the magnetic force of the magnets 1 to 3, 5, and the side end parts 20a, 20b of the respective steel plates 20 are aligned with one end sides of the steel plates 20.
