1,242,698. Alkenyl aromatic copolymer emulsions. KOPPERS CO. Inc. 4 Oct., 1968 [6 Oct., 1967], No. 47274/68. Heading C3P. [Also in Division. C2] A coating composition comprises an aq. emulsion of a copolymer of an alkenyl aromatic monomer and at least one of acrylic. acid, methacrylic acid, an ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid having up to 8 C atoms in the alcohol moiety, acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile, a plasticizer which comprises a trixylenyl phosphate ester of formula and an organic water-immiscible solvent for the phosphate ester. The copolymer may be formed from styrene, acrylonitrile and acrylic acid, or styrene, 2-ethylhexylacrylate and itaconic acid. The ester may be tris-2,6-dimethylphenyl phosphate ester and another plasticizer, e.g. dibutyl phthalate or trieresyl phosphate, may also be used. In Example (III) the copolymer was dissolved in an aq. ammonium hydroxide solution and mixed with the plasticizers dissolved in a mixture of aromatic petroleum hydrocarbons. |
