<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved artificial turf surface layer or the like having more resiliency compared with an existing artificial turf while the resiliency is maintained even after long hours of use. <P>SOLUTION: The artificial turf surface layer 1 has a flexible backing member 3 and parallel rows 5 of artificial ribbons 7 equivalent to blades of grass and extending upwardly from the backing member3. The rows 5 of ribbons are spaced with an interval A of 1-1/2 to 2-1/4 inches from each other. The length L of the ribbon 7 extending upwardly from the backing member 3 is at least twice as long as the interval A between the rows 5.
