PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for safely and inexpensively preparing a sulfide chain-containing organosilicon compound represented by a specific average composition formula which has a reduced amount of a monosulfide chain-containing organosilicon compound in the composition. SOLUTION: The method for preparing the sulfide chain-containing organosilicon-containing compound comprises reacting a mixture of a halogenoalkyl group-containing organosilicon compound represented by formula (1): (R<SP>1</SP>O)<SB>(3-p)</SB>(R<SP>2</SP>)<SB>p</SB>Si-R<SP>3</SP>-X (wherein R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each a monovalent hydrocarbon group; R<SP>3</SP>is a divalent hydrocarbon group; X is a halogen; and p is 0, 1 or 2) and sulfur with a sulfide represented by M<SB>2</SB>S (wherein M is ammonium or an alkali metal) or an aqueous solution or aqueous dispersion of its hydrate in the presence of a phase-transfer catalyst to obtain a sulfide chain-containing organosilicon compound represented by formula (2): (R<SP>1</SP>O)<SB>(3-p)</SB>(R<SP>2</SP>)<SB>p</SB>Si-R<SP>3</SP>-S<SB>m</SB>-R<SP>3</SP>-Si(OR<SP>1</SP>)<SB>(3-p)</SB>(R<SP>2</SP>)<SB>p</SB>(wherein m is 2≤m≤6 as an average value). According to this method, the sulfide chain-containing organosilicon compound having a reduced content of a monosulfide-containing organosilicon compound which has low reactivity with a rubber and is not useful can be obtained.
