PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rotation sensor, capable of generating a proper signal such as a pulse related to the rotation of a rotor and obtaining reliable rotation information, even if initializing process is performed, based on the variations in the output signal of a detecting element, caused by factor which is other than rotation. SOLUTION: The rotation sensor comprises a detecting element 1 for detecting the rotation of the rotor 7 to output an output signal, initializing means 3, 20, 21 of performing initializing processing including gain adjustment to obtain at least a requested gain as the initial value, an amplifying means 20 for amplifying the output signal by the gain to provide the amplified signal, a pulse-producing means 4 for producing corresponding to the rotation of the rotor 7, based on the variation in the amplified signal, and an initial value evaluating means 30 for evaluating the suitability of the initial value, wherein when the initial value is evaluated as being an unsuitable value, the initializing means 3, 20, 21 will perform reinitializing processes to obtain a new initial value and the amplifying means 20 amplifies the output signal by the new initial value to provide the amplified signal.
