The invention relates to a device and method for stabilising a motor vehicle exposed to crosswind by means of a device (12) for evaluating a crosswind force value to which influence the motor vehicle (10) is exposed and a stabilising device (13) which influences the motor vehicle (10) transversal dynamics and to which the evaluated crosswind force value is transmitted for compensating the crosswind influence exerted on the motor vehicle (10). The inventive stabilising device (13) is used for modifying wheel contact forces (F₁₁,, ..., F₁₄) acting on the motor vehicle (10) wheels (27a,..., 27d), wherein said stabilising device (13) modifies the wheel contact forces (F₁₁,, ..., F₁₄) according to the crosswind force value in such a way that the influence exerted by the crosswind is compensated.
