PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diimonium salt compound having a high solubility in an organic solvent or in a resin used in a near-infrared cut filter and being capable of forming a highly transparent film and to provide a near-infrared absorber and a near-infrared cut filter each containing the diimonium salt compound.

SOLUTION: What is provided is: a diimonium salt compound represented by formula (1) or (2); and a near-infrared absorber and a near-infrared cut filter each containing the diimonium salt compound.
