PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector for surely preventing any trouble such as a burn in exchanging light sources. SOLUTION: The projector comprises a lamp 31, a temperature sensor 33 for detecting the temperature of the circumference of the lamp 31, a cooling fan 34 for cooling the lamp 31, and a main control part 18 for controlling the cooling fan 34 on the basis of a detected temperature detected by the temperature sensor 33. The main control part 18 repeatedly executes cooling processing for operating the cooling fan 34 for only a prescribed time in exchanging the lamp 31 and determination processing for controlling the cooling fan 34 so as to stop execution of the cooling processing when the detected temperature does not exceed a reference temperature by executing the cooling processing again when the detected temperature exceed the reference temperature until the detected temperature becomes the reference temperature or lower.
