PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method and apparatus, by which a high purity carbon material can be produced continuously in large quantity. SOLUTION: In the apparatus having a reactor 13, wherein a base material 12 carrying a catalyst 11 is arranged, and producing the carbon material by a catalyst reaction by supplying a carbon source (C-source) 14 from the outside, an impurity carbon decomposition substance concentration control device 15 is provided for decomposing impurity carbon which grows on the surface of the catalyst 11 and inhibits the growth of the carbon material, and only the high purity carbon material is grown by producing the carbon material while decomposing the impurity carbon generated at the time of producing the carbon material.
