PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of component members for a side frame member in a main frame for an escalator for manufacturing the main farm for the escalator efficiently and at low cost, and make an exterior plate translucent to improve design performance in composing a see-through elevator. SOLUTION: A right and a left side frame member 8 in a pair to compose the main frame 1 of the escalator is composed of an upper side member 8a, a lower side member 8b, a vertical member 10 connecting the upper and the lower side members 8a and 8b to each other, and a tension member 11 stretched between each end side of the upper side member 8a and a middle part of the lower side member 8.
