A liquid crystal display panel has a structure where a liquid crystal layer is sandwiched between a pair of electrode substrates in order to prevent the streak defect of an alignment film caused by a rubbing treatment and to improve the uniformity of liquid crystal alignment. The liquid crystal display panel comprises a support base member (15) of generally rectangular shape installed on at least one electrode substrate of the pair, an opposed electrode (17) supported by the support base member (15), and an alignment film (18) so disposed on the surface of the opposed electrode (17) as to be adjacent to the liquid crystal layer. The rubbing direction of the alignment film (18) is parallel to the one side of the support base member (15). The opposed electrode (17) has a nonlinear periphery extending in the rubbing direction of the alignment film (18).
