PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering device capable of preventing a steering feeling from being lowered when a steeling assisting force in a steering wheel returning state or a steering wheel holding state is changed from a steering assisting force in a steering wheel turning state. SOLUTION: In the electric power steering device, a correspondence relation of a steering torque and a basic assist torque is stored as an assist characteristic, the steering torque is detected by a torque sensor 22, and a motor 10 for generating the steering assisting force is controlled to generate the steering assisting force in accordance with the detected steering torque and the basic assist torque obtained based on the basic assist characteristic. The stored assist characteristic is made to be transient to make the basic assist torque corresponding to a fixed steering torque larger in the steering wheel returning state and the steering wheel holding state than in the steering wheel turning state exceeding a set steering speed.
