PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telop erasure method, a telop erasure apparatus, and a telop erasure program for finely and easily restoring an image including a telop to an original image not including the telop by erasing the telop. SOLUTION: A telop background replacement apparatus 1 stores electronic images such as television programs and movies or the like received by an image input means 11 to an image storage means 12, a telop superimpose detection means 13 detects regions of the telop and the superimpose included in the images, stores the detected regions as mask images, an image fineness detection means 14 refers to the original image in the vicinity of the mask image to detect the fineness of the image, discriminates whether the detected region is micro texture or macro texture, a micro texture restoration means 15 restores the telop or superimposed region according to original image information in the vicinity of the mask image by a micro texture generation interpolation method or a macro texture generation interpolation method, and replaces the telop or superimpose region from the image with the original image without the telop and the superimpose region.
